After 5 days in Tokyo, our next stop was a quick visit to Hong Kong for the weekend before heading back to San Francisco. This was my absolute first time in Hong Kong and I was so stoked. The top things on my to do list were: eat, be touristy, and high tea!
Food
The first meal after we checked into our hotel was a delicious dinner with friends. Throughout the weekend we ate dum sum at Tim Ho Wan twice, ate a ton of street food, and I even tried pissing shrimp for the first time. While the night markets weren’t as large as Taipei, the food in Hong Kong is phenomenal.
Tourist Attractions
Hong Kong is ridiculously beautiful. I remember being blown away as soon as got my first glimpse of the islands while landing. With such a short time in the city, we hit up the main spots: Victoria Harbour, Victoria Peak, Lan Kwai Fong, and the many shopping malls. We stayed at The Harbour Grand Hong Kong and had a beautiful view the peninsula.
High Tea
The next day, I basically dragged Ke to The Peninsula for afternoon tea. After researching and asking my friends, the two top recommendations I received were The Mandarin’s and The Peninsula’s afternoon tea service. We decided to go to the historic and popular Peninsula and therefore waited in line for about an hour to get seated. However, I personally feel the wait was well worth it since we were visiting and the live music every hour didn’t hurt.
Friends
The best part of this trip was being able to visit our friends for the first time since they moved to Hong Kong a couple of years prior. We had dinner the first night in town and then joined them for dragon boat practice. Ke happily tried rowing for the first time despite practice being cut short by a downpour.
